Office of the Provost
Our Provost, Frank James, is the chief academic officer for Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and oversees all graduate and doctoral programs. The Provost is responsible for working collaboratively with academic leadership in the development and implementation of academic planning and policies for the seminary, overseeing curriculum and degree development, and administering the budget for Academic Affairs. As a member of the President's Council, the Provost works with the campus deans, division chairs, Dean of Enrollment Management/Chief Registrar and directors of academic programs to ensure the academic quality of all programs.
Gordon-Conwell offers 14 graduate and doctoral programs on four campuses:
- Hamilton: M.Div., MA Educational Ministries, MA Counseling, MA Missions and Evangelism, MA Church History, MA New Testament, MA Old Testament, MA Religion, MA Theology, MA Biblical Languages, MA Ethics and Society, ThM, DMin as well as a joint Th.D. in Missions with Boston University.
- Boston: M.Div., MA in Youth Ministry, MA in Counseling, MA in Urban Ministry, Th.M., D.Min.
- Charlotte: M.Div., MA in Counseling, MA in Christian Leadership, MA Religion, D.Min.
- Jacksonville: M.Div., MA in Christian Leadership.
The Provost meets regularly with the deans of the four campuses to discuss matters pertaining to academic activities on campus, convenes the Provost's Council to discuss broader institutional issues, and serves on the Education Committee of the Board of Trustees.
In addition to oversight of the four campuses, the Provost oversees the work of the following:
- Ockenga Institute and campus Research Centers
- GCTS Libraries
- Institutional Assessment
- Continuing and Professional Education
- Global Education
- Distance Education
- Hispanic Program
- Academic Partnerships
The Office of the Provost ensures compliance with the accreditation standards established by the Association of Theological Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.
