Practical Ministry Training

At Gordon-Conwell, we are committed to helping you put your biblical knowledge and theology into practice. In your classes, your professors will teach you practical skills for ministry and for the interpretation of God's Word. They will speak to you about the social, cultural, and political realities facing you in the 21st century, and share from their own experiences as missionaries, teachers and pastors. Outside the classroom, you will gain supervised ministry experience through programs like Mentored Ministry and the Overseas Missions Practicum as well as internships and degree practica.

Graduates of Gordon-Conwell serve Christ all over the world as pastors, counselors, church planters, professors, missionaries, social advocates and business women and men.  With the tools, skills, and experiences you gain here, you will be equipped to follow in their footsteps and follow God's call wherever it leads.

  • Mentored Ministry
This internship program provides a context for integrating classroom theory with practical ministry experience, all under the guidance of a mentor currently doing ministry.

  • Overseas Missions Practicum (OMP)
Gordon-Conwell mobilizes, trains and sends out teams of students into cross-cultural areas around the world where they can serve the poor, share their faith and network with Christians and missionaries from a broad spectrum of other cultures and church traditions.

  • Ockenga Institute
This institute expands access to our rich educational resources through centers like the Shoemaker Center for Church Renewal, the Center for the Study of Global Christianity and the Mockler Center for Faith and Ethics in the Workplace.

  • Center for Preaching
This center equips men and women with preaching skills for communication to a world in desperate need of biblical truth. A team of preachers is utilized to teach these skills through various means, including sermon evaluations, an audio journal and a biennial preaching conference.

  • Wilson Center for World Missions
This center, named for one of Gordon-Conwell's beloved former missions professors, fosters a global mindset among the Gordon-Conwell community. The center provides a range of practical, mission-focused educational initiatives, including the OMP, multicultural forums and a scholar in residence program.

  • Urban and cross-cultural ministry
Opportunities for this kind of ministry abound in Boston, Lynn, Beverly and other nearby towns.

  • Center for Urban Ministerial Education (CUME)
CUME is Gordon-Conwell's inner city campus focused on urban ministry.

  • Conferences and Forums
Lectureships and conferences take place regularly at each seminary campus on a wide variety of ministry and missions related topics.

"The faculty here have such an appreciation and respect for God's Word, and most of them have taught and ministered overseas. I can't imagine a better place to prepare for missions."
Bobby J. Ryu, M.Div. '05, Kobe, Japan

"Gordon-Conwell is giving me a global perspective on the Kingdom of God. Before, I was quite parochial, mostly thinking about Britain. Now, my views have been expanded and illuminated with a concern to reach the whole world for Christ."
Mike Tindall, M.Div. '09, London, England

"At Gordon-Conwell, the academic formation of the mind, the spiritual formation of the heart and the vast hands-on ministry and missions opportunities that the school offered have greatly equipped me for ministry."
Stephanie Mathis, MAR '08, Portland, Oregon
