Chapel services are led by faculty, administration, students, staff, and visiting speakers, under the guidance of the Assistant Dean. Offices and departments are closed during the chapel hour on Wednesday for all-school chapel, so that the entire Seminary community can gather for a time of formal worship. Special emphasis weeks provide concentrated attention to spiritual growth, missions, and urban ministry. Formal convocations and special lecture series are held periodically. During these times eminent pastors and Christian scholars are scheduled as speakers for bringing special insights regarding contemporary issues and concerns. Moreover, the entire academic curriculum is designed to reinforce the student's sense of calling to be a person of God, communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world of the late twenty first century.
You are invited to participate in private daily prayer for the entire Gordon-Conwell commmunity. A daily prayer card published by the school is provided for everyone. Also, pray for the renewal of the Church nationally and worldwide. Gordon-Conwell graduates have been used by God in powerful ways in many denominations. Prayer is an important dimension of our life together. The Chapel is open for prayer at various times throughout the day. Please see the schedule posted outside the Chapel auditorium for times set side for prayer.
Music, drama, and various art media are part of the Christian's expression of worship. The Fall Chapel Concert, drama presentations, and gallery displays in the Audrey Williamson Ockenga Gallery, in cooperation with the Director of Education for Media and the Arts, are part of the Chapel program's commitment to the arts.
A time for faculty advisors to gather with their student advisees is provided in the schedule on selected Thursday mornings during the regularly scheduled Chapel time during the semester. Students and faculty meet for Bible Study, topic study, discussion, and prayer. The advisor and advisee groups have the potential for establishing links between both student and student and faculty and student. The groups are also rich mentoring opportunities.
