Charlotte is a recent chapter in Gordon-Conwell's long history that began in 1884. An accredited campus of the seminary since 1992, Charlotte's resources include resident faculty and administration, a comprehensive theological library and an expanding technology base for computer-assisted teaching and distance learning. In the fall of 2003, Gordon-Conwell–Charlotte moved into a new facility, The Frank and Morrow Graham Academic Center, named in honor of the parents of Billy Graham.
Each degree program is uniquely designed for students actively engaged in a career and in ministry. Students can complete their studies without interrupting their present employment. Classes operate on a flexible schedule - including weekends and evenings - to accommodate even the busiest professional. This schedule allows our world-renowned faculty from other Gordon-Conwell campuses to teach in Charlotte. Students benefit from the vast array of an established, evangelical seminary committed to leadership development in ministry.
A vital component of the Charlotte program is ministry training within the setting of the local church. The church provides the context and a training ground for hands-on ministry preparation while the seminary provides theological education of the highest caliber. Pastors serve as mentors and contribute to student formation in at least four ways. They guide students into comprehensive experiences of ministry practice, support them in developing a balance between the demands of study and ministry, encourage them in a continuing spiritual journey with Christ and the people of God, and facilitate the interaction between theory and practice.
This learning model appeals to a broad range of students with busy lives who want to pursue a graduate degree from a leading evangelical seminary. Some students are recent college graduates, while others are planning to enter ministry as a second career. All students experience concentrated class sessions complemented by active ministry in the local church. About half of our students are already in ministry careers. Others represent a wide range of professional fields.
Men and women from around the Southeast are earning their master's degrees through a flexible program at an affordable price. Students can usually complete their degrees in four years, although they are allowed up to eight years to finish. Coming from a variety of cultural and denominational backgrounds, Gordon-Conwell–Charlotte enjoys richness in student diversity within a legacy of educational excellence.
