How do I apply?

You may apply online or request a PDF application from the Admissions office.

  • If you have previously submitted an application to any campus of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, please email charlotteadmissions@gordonconwell.edu for instructions to re-open your application. We already have a record created for you, and will guide you through the process of re-applying.
As you prepare your application, please take a few moments to read our Community Life Statement, which all members of the Gordon-Conwell community must affirm. By signing and submitting your completed application, you affirm that you have read, agree with, and adhere to our Community Life Statement.

Applications will be reviewed once the following items have been received:

  1. Completed application
  2. Essays (no more than two pages each, double-spaced):
    • In your Personal Statement, please address the following:
      • your vocational goals and how this degree will help you pursue those goals
      • church involvement
      • encouragement from others
      • reasons for applying to Gordon-Conwell
      • an assessment of your strengths and weaknesses
    • In your Spiritual Autobiography, please address the following:
      • your conversion and commitment to Christ
      • the significant factors which have aided your growth as a Christian
      • the important events and people shaping your identity as a person
  3. Three written recommendations: attesting to applicant's commitment to Christ, church involvement, leadership ability, social sensitivity, emotional maturity, reasoning and decision-making ability, level of responsibility, skills in communication and facility in interpersonal relationships.
  • One reference is needed from each category:
    1. Pastor or Church Official
    2. Friend or Associate
    3. Former Professor or Professional Colleague
    • References should be individuals whom you have known for at least one year, and who are not related to you.
    • Please complete the Recommendation Request Form to send an email to your references with a link for each person to complete their recommendation. (You will enter your references into your application for informational purposes.)
    • If your reference is not able to complete the digital form, please contact the Admissions office for assistance.
  1. OPTIONALChurch endorsement form completed and signed by a church official.
  • The church endorsement form does NOT replace the pastoral recommendation letter listed above.
  • The church endorsement form is optional, and is not required to complete your application.
  1. Official transcripts sent directly from all colleges and institutions of higher education attended.  Please note: The seminary requires a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.  All programs require a minimum 2.5 .gpa with the exception of the M.A. (Christian Counseling), which requires a minimum 3.0 .gpa.
    • Official transcripts must be sent directly to Gordon-Conwell, or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope. Copies and opened transcripts are not considered official.
    • Transcripts may be sent by any means your college(s) uses for transmitting official transcripts; official electronic transcripts are accepted.
    • Gordon-Conwell is a partner school of SCRIP-SAFE. If your college uses this service for transmitting electronic transcripts, search for and have the transcripts sent to "Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte Campus Graduate Admission".
    • We do need transcripts from all colleges/universities attended, even if the classes were transferred to another school and are reflected on their transcripts.
  2. Non-refundable application fee of $50 (U.S.). This may be paid online (with the online application), by phone or by mail.
  3. TOEFL score (international students only). Gordon-Conwell requires a TOEFL score of 90 or better (IBT). Prospective international students can find more information here.

Semlink and Non-Degree Seeking applicants should complete the full application.

My application is complete, now what?

Your application will be reviewed, and a decision regarding your admission will be made (usually) within two weeks.
