Hamilton Partnership Program Answers

Q:How do I apply for the Partnership Scholarship?
A:

Students who have been admitted to Gordon-Conwell at the South Hamilton campus for a Masters Degree program, (excluding Master of Counseling and Master of Theology degrees), can apply for the Partnership Program by completing the application forms.

Q:When are the application due dates for the Partnership Scholarship?
A:
  • Fall semester due date: April 15
  • Spring semester due date: September 30

All application materials, including letters of recommendation, must be received by these times to be eligible. The forms required are:

  • The application, including written responses
  • A list of potential sponsors
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation

Q:Who are the Partners?
A:

Partners are individuals you know that will become members of your "supporting team". They can be family, friends, members of your small group or church members. As part of the application, you will provide the names of approximately sixteen individuals and a sending church that will be willing to support you through prayer and financial support throughout your seminary education.

Q:How much will I get in scholarship money?
A:

Scholarship recipients will be awarded a full-tuition scholarship towards their annual tuition. Recipients must be approved for renewal.

Q:Am I able to combine the Partnership Scholarship with other scholarships?
A:

As a general rule, most Gordon-Conwell scholarships are not "combinable" with other Gordon-Conwell scholarships. However, accepted students may augment this scholarship through student loans and/or other non-institutional (non-GCTS) scholarships. For more information about these opportunities, contact our Financial Aid Office by sending an email. The only scholarship that is combinable with the Partnership Program is the Pierce Scholarship.

Q:What are the admission criteria for this program?
A:

Primary criteria for selection will be:

  • Commitment to the local church
  • Academic excellence
  • Strong sense of calling
  • Proven leadership in ministry
  • All Master degree programs can apply, excluding Master of Counseling (MACO), Master of Theology (Th.M.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.)
  • U.S. citizen or green card holder

Q:What are the primary benefits that I will receive from this program?
A:

Scholarship recipients will receive:

  • An emphasis on learning biblical principles of stewardship. These are lessons which will continue to bear fruit long after you've left seminary.
  • Continuing opportunities to strengthen ties with sending church, family and friends
  • A full-tuition, renewable scholarship
  • Focused Mentored Ministry training in stewardship
  • Practical ministry skills and experience
  • Practical fundraising training
  • Participating in spiritual and discipleship mentoring and training events

Q:How does the money given by my support team get to me?
A:

All financial support garnered by Partnership scholars is placed into the Partnership Program Scholarship Fund. Rather than receiving direct support from donors, scholars are given a full-tuition scholarship for their participation in the Partnership Program. This enables donors to give on a tax-deductible basis, and Partnership recipients to receive aid in the form of an academic scholarship. Gordon-Conwell reserves the right to administer these funds as appropriate and provides other institutional resources. The "qualified scholarships" provided in the Partnership Program have been approved by the Internal Revenue Service through a private letter ruling.

Q:What if my supporting team gives money in excess of the scholarship amount?
A:

Our hope is that all program participants will seek to build support from their team beyond the minimum guidelines, as they seek to build and maintain enthusiastic ministry networks. Regardless of how much money is given by supporters, program participants will receive a full-tuition scholarship towards tuition, in addition to the other value-added program elements that focus on personal development in the areas of calling, stewardship, and discipleship.

Q:Am I guaranteed to receive the scholarship for the duration of my study?
A:

The Partnership Program is designed so that those scholars that are selected will be able to participate for the duration of their academic program. All Partnership recipients will receive personal guidance and evaluation from the Partnership Program Director, which will include a semi-annual assessment for renewal. Those program recipients that have demonstrated sincere effort and success in the various elements of the program can expect to be approved for scholarship renewal. You must renew the scholarship each year in writing.

Q:Can I utilize the same three references as my GCTS application?
A:

Yes, you can forward the Partnership Program letters of recommendation to the same three people as completed your GCTS recommendation. Please keep in mind you want to include people who can best describe your strengths for this scholarship.

Q:Will Gordon-Conwell be contacting the people listed on my potential sponsor list?
A:

No, this is for application purposes only. This exercise is meant for you to start thinking about who you would like to invite to participate in the Partnership Program with you.

Q:I am a current GCTS student - am I eligible to apply?
A:

Yes, the Partnership Program is available to current GCTS students as well. The scholarship amount awarded for current students will be based on the scholarship amount offered during your first on-campus enrollment year.

Q:Can I apply for spring semester acceptance?
A:

Yes, any student, both new and current, is welcome to apply for spring acceptance, with the exception of the Master of Arts in Counseling (MACO), Master of Theology (Th.M.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree programs.

Q:Is there a minimum number of courses that I must take in any given year?
A:

Yes. You must maintain a full-time schedule defined as 3 courses in the fall and spring semesters.

Q:If I wish to take less than 10 courses in any given year, am I able to do so?
A:

Yes, you are able to take less than 10 courses in any given year. However, you must maintain a full-time schedule defined as three courses in the fall and spring semester.

Q:I am an international student, can I apply?
A:

Unfortunately the Partnership Program Scholarship is available to U.S. citizens and greencard holders only. For additional information concerning international students, please click here.

Q:I am considering a dual degree major. Can I be in the Partnership Program?
A:

Yes. As long as one of your degrees is an applicable degree approved for the Partnership Program (i.e. A dual M.Div. and MACO degree is acceptable).

Q:What degree programs are applicable?
A:

All Master level degree programs, excluding Master of Counseling (MACO), Master of Theology (Th.M.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) can apply.

Q:When do I renew my scholarship?
A:

 On April 15 of each year, simply sign and return a renewal agreement form. All forms should be submitted to the Partnership Program Director.

Q:Can I take more than 10 courses?
A:

 Yes, you can take as many courses as you would like.
