Merit-Based Scholarships

You must complete your application for admission to Gordon-Conwell and your Merit Scholarship Application by February 15 to be considered for the merit-based scholarships listed below.  Before applying for any scholarship, please read the Special Scholarship Policies.  For more information, contact the Admissions Office directly.

$10,000 scholarship - Presidential Scholarship, Application Deadline February 15

The Presidential Scholarship for Future Christian Leaders

The Presidential Scholarship for Future Christian Leaders is a $10,000/year scholarship granted to one applicant for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

The recipient of this award will demonstrate exceptional promise for Christian leadership upon graduation from Gordon-Conwell and will reflect the Seminary’s commitment to “advance Christ’s kingdom in every sphere of life” in service to the Church. The recipient must have leadership experience and must complete the application for admission to Gordon-Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. $20,000 scholarship - Dr. Douglas G. Pratt Scholarship, Application Deadline: February 15

Dr. Douglas G. Pratt Scholarship

The Dr. Douglas G. Pratt Scholarship is a $20,000/year scholarship granted to two applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

Named in honor of Dr. Douglas G. Pratt, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, the Dr. Douglas G. Pratt Scholarship is a $20,000/year scholarship granted to two applicants who demonstrate a call to pastoral ministry in the local church, have the capacity to lead a large congregation, and show exceptional promise as future pastors in the reformed or Presbyterian traditions.  The recipients will also be required to attend two weeks of intentional mentoring and experiential learning at First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, FL, during the month of January.  Applicants must complete the application for admission to Gordon-Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. $10,000 scholarship - Michael Haynes Scholarship, Application Deadline: February 15

Rev. Michael Haynes Scholarship

The Rev. Michael Haynes Scholarship is an $10,000/year (assuming 10 courses per year; $1,000/course) scholarship granted to up to five applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

Named in honor of Reverend Michael E. Haynes, longtime Trustee of Gordon-Conwell and pastor of Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury, MA, this $10,000/year scholarship is available to up to five applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester. Recipients of this award will be African-American students committed to serving the Church.  Preference will be given to those in the MDiv program or called to pastoral ministry. Recipients should complete their application for admission to Gordon- Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. The Rev. Michael Haynes Scholarship is not combinable with other Gordon-Conwell scholarships, with the exception of the Pierce Scholarship. Multicultural Development Scholarship

The Multicultural Development Scholarship is an $8,000/year (assuming 10 courses per year; $800/course) scholarship granted to one applicant for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

This $8,000/year scholarship is available to one applicant for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester. Recipients of this award will be African-American and/or Latino students committed to serving the Church. Recipients should complete their application for admission to Gordon- Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. The Multicultural Development Scholarship is not combinable with other Gordon-Conwell scholarships, with the exception of the Pierce Scholarship. Rev. Timothy J. Keller Scholarship for Pastoral Ministry

The Rev. Timothy J. Keller Scholarship for Pastoral Ministry is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to three applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

Named in honor of Rev. Timothy J. Keller (M.Div. ’75), pastor of New York City’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church, who has faithfully sought to communicate the truth of God’s Word for more than 20 years, the Rev. Timothy J. Keller Scholarship for Pastoral Ministry is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to three applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester. Recipients of this award will demonstrate exceptional promise for pastoral ministry upon graduation from Gordon-Conwell and will reflect the Seminary’s commitment to “live biblically” in service to the Church. Recipients must demonstrate experience in ministry, must express a desire to engage in vocational pastoral ministry within the local church upon graduation, and must complete their application for admission to Gordon-Conwell’s Master of Divinity program and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. Dr. J Christy Wilson Jr. Scholarship for Missions Ministry

The Dr. J. Christy Wilson, Jr. Scholarship for Missions Ministry is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to three applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

Named in honor of Dr. J. Christy Wilson, Jr., former professor of missions at Gordon-Conwell who faithfully served Christ in Afghanistan for 22 years as a missionary, pastor, and teacher, the Dr. J. Christy Wilson, Jr. Scholarship for Missions Ministry is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to three applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester. Recipients of this award will demonstrate exceptional promise for missions service upon graduation from Gordon-Conwell and will reflect the Seminary’s commitment to “engage globally” in service to the Church. “Missions” is broadly defined to include both international and local missions, social justice ministry, urban or rural ministry and campus ministry. Recipients must demonstrate experience in missions, must express a desire to engage in missions as a full-time vocation upon graduation, and must complete their application for admission to Gordon- Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15.  This scholarship is renewable each year of study. The Dr. David F. Wells Scholarship for Teaching Ministry is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to three applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

Named in honor of Dr. David F. Wells, longtime theology professor at Gordon- Conwell who embodies the Seminary’s commitment to academic excellence, the Dr. David F. Wells Scholarship for Teaching Ministry is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to three applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.  Recipients of this award will demonstrate exceptional promise for teaching ministry and academic work upon graduation from Gordon-Conwell and will reflect the Seminary’s commitment to “think theologically” in service to the Church. Recipients must have received a GPA of 3.5 or higher at an accredited undergraduate institution and must complete their application for admission to Gordon-Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. Scholarship for Professional Counselors

The Scholarship for Professional Counselors is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to two applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

The Scholarship for Counselors is a $7,500/year scholarship granted to up to two applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester. Recipients of this award will demonstrate exceptional promise for counseling ministry upon graduation from Gordon-Conwell and will reflect the Seminary’s commitment to “advance Christ’s kingdom in every sphere of life” in service to the Church. Recipients must have a degree in psychology or sociology, or must be a graduating senior planning to graduate with a degree in one of these fields. Recipients should complete their application for admission to Gordon- Conwell’s Master of Arts in Counseling degree program and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. $5,200 scholarship - Military Chaplaincy Scholarship, Application Deadline: February 15

Military Chaplaincy Scholarship: “Every Sphere”

The Military Chaplaincy Scholarship is a $5,250/year scholarship granted to up to two applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester.

The Military Chaplaincy Scholarship is a $5,250/year scholarship granted to up to two applicants for full-time study, beginning in the fall semester. Recipients of this award must be enrolled in the chaplain candidate program during their time at Gordon- Conwell and must express the desire to serve the Church as a military chaplain upon graduation from the Seminary. Applicants must complete their application for admission to Gordon- Conwell and the Merit Scholarship Application by February 15. This scholarship is renewable each year of full-time study and can be combined with military scholarships and grants like the Yellow Ribbon Program and tuition assistance given to chaplain candidates.  Click here to apply.

Recipients will be notified by April 1. Merit-based scholarships are not combinable with other Gordon-Conwell scholarships, with the exception of the Pierce Scholarship.
