Counseling & Psychology Databases

GCTS libraries offer students, staff and faculty a host of online databases to help with research needs. Below is a list of databases particularly useful for counseling and psychology.

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials

Compiled by the American Theological Library Association, ATLA Religion Database covers Biblical studies, world religions, church history, and religious perspectives on social issues. Supplemented with ATLASerials, this database contains over 55,000 full-text journal articles and book reviews from international titles and multi-author works in the field of religion. Coverage begins in 1946 and continues to the present. This is a selection from the 1.2 million records in the ATLA Religion Index.

Alumni/ae can access full-text periodicals that are indexed in ATLASerials through ATLAS for Alum.

Christian Periodical Index

Published by the Association of Christian Librarians, CPI provides access to English language articles and reviews from an evangelical perspective.  The electronic version of the Christian Periodical Index includes most titles from 1976 to the present.

eBooks on EBSCOhost

Over 700 theological titles and hundreds more are now through NetLibrary in full-text. An list of subjects in Library of Congress call number order is available. All Netlibrary books available to the GCTS community are searchable at eBooks on EBSCOhost. To access these ebooks, either perform a search for your desired topic, author, or title at the eBooks on EBSCOhost site (after logging into EZproxy), or navigate to the appropriate subject group and click the direct title link.

ERIC - Education Resources Information Center  

ERIC - the Education Resources Information Center - is an online digital library of education research and information. ERIC is sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education. ERIC provides ready access to education literature to support the use of educational research and information to improve practice in learning, teaching, educational decision-making, and research.

EThOs - British Library Electronic Theses Online  

The aim of EThOS is to offer a 'single point of access' where researchers the world over can access ALL theses produced by UK Higher Education. Search for existing UK theses, and either read or request the full-text of many theses.

Expanded Academic ASAP (Gale Group)  

From arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all academic disciplines. Access scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers - many with full text and images!

Family & Society Studies Worldwide

Family & Society Studies Worldwide, produced by NISC, is a core resource providing the most comprehensive coverage of research, policy, and practice literature in the fields of Family Science, Human Ecology, Human Development, and Social Welfare. FSSW is an anthology of 4 database files providing access to over 846,080 records. Coverage spans from 1970 to the present.

Gale Virtual Reference Library  

Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7. Because each library creates its own eBook collection, the content you see may vary if you use the database at different libraries (your school, your public library, or your office).

Health Reference Center Academic  

Multi-source database provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus the wide variety of personal health information sources in InfoTrac's award-winning Health Reference Center. All in a single, easy-to-use database, the material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only.

Infotrac  

The following databases from the Gale Group are available, at no charge, in all NMRLS member libraries: Biography Resource Center, plus Marquis Who's Who, Business and Company Profiles, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, Expanded Academic ASAP, General Business File ASAP, General Reference Center Gold, Health Reference Center Academic, Junior Edition (K-12), Kids Edition (K-12), Kids InfoBits, Professional Collection, and Student Edition.

JSTOR  

JSTOR provides full-text access to core academic journals. Gordon-Conwell subscribes to the Arts & Sciences collections III, IV & V. These collections include journals in languages and literature, music, film studies, folklore, performing arts, religion, the history and study of art and architecture, business, education, law,  psychology, public policy and administration, philosophy, history, and classics.

Ministry Matters (formerly called "iPreach")  

The Ministry Matters Library offers the finest in contemporary biblical study and preaching resources to pastors and teachers. This extensive collection of commentaries, Bible dictionaries, and other reference works provides a breadth of substantial, searchable materials with which to prepare sermons and lessons—all in one place. Includes The Dictionary of Pastoral Care and Counseling under "Pastoral Resources."

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses — Full Text  

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses — Full Text (Humanities & Social Sciences Collection) is the world's most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses. The official digital dissertations archive for the Library of Congress and the database of record for graduate research. PQDT — Full Text includes millions of searchable citations to dissertation and theses from around the world from 1861 to the present day together with over a million full text dissertations that are available for download in PDF format. Over 2.1 million titles are available for purchase as printed copies. The database offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997 and strong retrospective full text coverage for older graduate works.

ProQuest Religion  

ProQuest Religion is an indispensable resource for religious studies programs and for anyone researching religious issues and perspectives. This resource presently has more than 220 journals, with most of them available with full-text. The content is full-text, scholarly, and designed to meet the needs of both religious studies programs and general library collections.

PsycARTICLES

Contains more than 25,000 searchable full-text articles from 42 journals from 1988 to the present. Covers general psychology and specialized basic, applied, clinical, and theoretical research in psychology.

PsycINFO

PsycINFO, the American Psychological Association’s renowned resource for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, is the largest resource devoted to peer-reviewed literature in behavioral science and mental health. It contains approximately 3 million citations and summaries dating as far back as the 1600s with DOIs for over 1.4 million records. Journal coverage, which spans from the 1800s to present, includes international material selected from around 2,400 periodicals in dozens of languages.

Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection

This database provides coverage of nearly 550 full text journals, including more than 500 peer-reviewed titles. Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods.

Research in Ministry (RIM)  

RIM® Online is a freely available database that indexes DMin projects from reporting schools of theology accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.

Religion & Philosophy Collection

This database provides extensive coverage of such topics as world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy.

Religious & Theological Abstracts  

Religious & Theological Abstracts (R&TA) provides objective summaries of articles appearing in scholarly journals in the fields of Religion and Theology.

Therapedia A-Z: An Encyclopedia of Mental Health  

A free resource produced by Theravive, Therapedia contains a combined A-Z list of "Common Issues Treated by Therapists," "Kinds of Therapy," and a compendium of "DSM-V Disorders."

Theses Canada - Library and Archives Canada  

The mission of Theses Canada is to acquire and preserve a comprehensive collection of Canadian theses at Library and Archives Canada, to provide access to this valuable research within Canada and throughout the world. Its mission to preserve this portion of Canada's bibliographic heritage is achieved through collaboration with the many Canadian universities who participate in the program.

TREN (Theological Research Exchange Network) PDF Tutorial Available

The Theological Research Exchange Network (TREN) is a library of over 10,000 theological thesis/dissertation titles representing research from as many as 70 different institutions.

WorldCat PDF Tutorial

WorldCat is a worldwide union catalog created and maintained collectively by more than 9,000 member institutions. With millions of online records built from the bibliographic and ownership information of contributing libraries, it is the largest and most comprehensive database of its kind. Simple keyword searches for books are available to all through WorldCat.org. More complex searches can be performed through FirstSearch (which requires and EZproxy login off-campus).

Psychology & Counseling Journals

  • Electronic Journals - GCTS Libraries subscribe to over 150 online journals in psychology and counseling. These journals are searchable through the various bibliographic databases listed above (e.g., PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection, JSTOR, etc.).
  • In-Print Journals at Goddard Library - The Goddard Library has various in-print volumes and issues from 65 different journals in psychology and counseling.
