Please note that while these postings reflect the desire of certain ministries and churches to have a seminarian work with them, ministry opportunities for GCTS students are not limited to this list.

PROJECT: Wesley United Methodist Church is seeking a male or female student to serve and grow in the following opportunities:

  • Active involvement in creating and implementing a vision for a children’s ministry program from preschool to grade 6 including Sunday morning children’s church.
  • Help recruit children by interacting with parents and grandparents and encouraging involvement.
  • Organize volunteers to assist with the ministry.
  • Some involvement in the beginning part of weekly Sunday worship services.
  • Coordinate seasonal activities for the children that can be share during the worship service.
  • Potential for further leadership activities depending on the candidate.

Wesley United Methodist Church is a small but growing multi-generational congregation.  Our worship services are a blend of contemporary praise and worship music led by our praise team and classical traditional hymns with our historic pipe organ. Our historic building is in the heart of Salem, Massachusetts within walking distance of the MBTA commuter rail.  Our Sunday worship service is from 10:00—11:30 a.m., and we have various Bible studies throughout the week as well as times of more informal praise and worship.

Position: Your responsibilities will include reaching out to the children of Dorchester and their families, maintaining, overseeing, and building upon existing children’s ministry (King’s Kids, Children’s Church, Nursery, VBS and summer programs), and training and organizing volunteers

Other: Christ the King Dorchester is a multi-ethnic, Gospel-driven, community-based church which is committed to seeing the Kingdom of God extended in Dorchester and beyond. We are a young church (started five years ago) that has experienced good healthy growth. We average about 150 children and adults in attendance in worship. Many of these are new Christians, some are seekers. During the week we have a thriving ESL ministry and a children’s ministry that reaches out to both church kids and neighborhood children.

Looking for someone who is faithful to Jesus and has a “god-size” vision for life and ministry, has a vibrant prayer life, has a love for people, and is a hybrid leader (able to operate and relate to many different types of people and cultures). The position is open to both men and women.

First Baptist of Portland- Children’s Ministry

Position: The candidate will be expected to recruit and organize large groups of volunteer’s. The candidate will be able to cast a vision for a children’s ministry program from preschool to grade 6, and be able to implement programming for that vision. The candidate will be able to effectively communicate in both large and small group settings. The candidate will learn and practice organization skills, teaching skills, and seek to teach children Biblical truths in fun, creative, and culturally relevant means.

Hours: 20-30 hours

Time Frame: Summer or Fall (Immediate Opportunity) may lead into full time position.

Other: The ideal candidate would love children and be passionate about communicating the Gospel of Jesus through creative, fun, and relevant means while remaining true to the scriptures. GARDEN CITY CHURCH – Children's Ministry Worker

PROJECT: Garden City Church is looking for a mature believer to work with elementary age children (6 – 12) as a part of a team for its children’s programming and outreach.  Responsibilities include teaching 2 times per month on Sunday morning (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off) as well as teaching 1 time per month on Tuesday/Wednesday night at a community outreach program. Additional responsibilities include: set up and tear down of classroom on Sunday morning (start time is 7:45 a.m.), set up and tear down on Tuesday/Wednesday night, filling in as needed, serving as an assistant teacher as needed.   This position will also require developing curriculum in conjunction with other teachers and the senior pastor.  We expect this person to attend GCC while serving in this capacity. Position is available immediately.

FINANCIAL: $500 per semester

TIME FRAME: We are looking for people to commit for two semesters.  Summers are also available.  Position is available immediately.

OTHER: Garden City Church is a church plant in its fifth year of ministry in Beverly, MA. We currently meet at Hannah Elementary School located on Brimbal Avenue in Beverly.  GCC is affiliated with the Assemblies of God.  A/G background not required.  Garden City Church is approximately 12 minutes from campus. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH – Children & Youth Ministry

PROJECT: Under direction of the pastor and Christian education committee, provide activities and Bible study as well as spiritual development for 5th–11th graders.  This would be done Sunday morning and during the week.  Building relationships with the 15 or so children is part of the position as well.  Student will meet with the pastor once a week.  Possibility of a few overnight or retreat and camping events, and possibility for the opportunity to participate in or lead segments of worship on Sunday morning.

HOURS: 10-15 hours per week

FINANCIAL: $50.00 -- $100.00 per week, plus use of on-site apartment and utilities if desired

OTHER: Seeking male or female student with patience and a fun spirit and interest in working with children.  Teaching and communication skills as well as an ability to build relationships are important.  Musical ability is a plus, as well as ability to present a children’s story during worship. 

We are a Bible-believing church which values expository preaching and a mix of hymns and contemporary music.  Located centrally in a city of 30,000 people, we have 60 or so regular attendees, and we are associated with a food pantry and soup kitchen.

GARDEN CITY CHURCH – Children’s & Youth Ministry

PROJECT: Haven Student Ministries is the youth ministry of Garden City Church.  We are seeking students who are passionate about reaching young people for Christ.  We have a growing outreach to kids in Beverly ages 6 – 18 (First grade through high school). Twenty-five to thirty kids attend on a weekly basis with a potential for 50 plus. Haven meets weekly on Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. Students are split into age appropriate groups. Elementary students (Haven Jr.) meet from 6:00 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.; junior and senior high students meet from 7:30 – 8:45 p.m.  Students can serve either age group or both.

HOURS: 10 hours / week


TIME FRAME: Fall ‘11 to Spring ‘12

OTHER:  We are looking for Seminary students to assist in fulfilling the church’s responsibility for the nurture of its youth by helping to create an engaging, welcoming environment in which students experience real Christian community for themselves. Students are also encouraged to attend monthly youth leader meetings for encouragement, training and coordination; pray for the youth of Haven Student Ministries regularly; share in the hands-on leadership of the weekly youth programs as assigned by the supervising staff person; and build friendships with youth and their parents.

Garden City Church is a church plant completing its third year. Church attendance is approximately 100 people. We meet at 10:30 on Sunday mornings at Hannah Elementary School.

ABUNDANT LIFE CHURCH – Children’s Ministry

PROJECT: Help to further develop and implement a quality Children’s Ministry emphasis at Abundant Life.  This would include being a part of the monthly Children’s Ministry Team meetings to assist in helping to choose curriculum, plan outreach events and service projects, and oversee teacher training opportunities.  After a period of adjustment, our hope is that the person would provide leadership for the Children’s Ministry which would include setting the team meeting agendas and follow-up.

Other areas of ministry might include being in a teaching rotation for one of the age-graded Sunday School classes and participating in the Sunday morning service through things like sharing the announcements, the Call to Worship, or a brief Children’s Message periodically.  Depending on one’s interest, preaching from time to time would be a possibility as well.

OTHER: We are an evangelical American Baptist church though the person does not need to be a Baptist to apply.  Our denomination does not define us.  I am a Christian pastor who happens to serve in a Baptist setting.  A few years ago we changed our structure to a team ministry with Elders overseeing the spiritual direction and an Equipping Team overseeing the ministry teams.  We average about 110 loving and caring people at our worship service which is contemporary with a worship team as we try to reach young families in Wilmington and surrounding communities.  The Abundant Life Christian School (K-8) and Learning Center (infant through pre-school) is an on-site ministry that we have as well.  We are close to both routes 93 and 95 and about 35 minutes from Gordon-Conwell.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH – Children’s Christian Education Coordinator

PROJECT:  Develop, lead and maintain a children’s Christian Education Program for children from infancy to age 10, including age groups 0-4 years for nursery, and 4-10 years for Kid’s Church.

The ideal candidate will have a mature relationship with the Lord; a heart for children’s ministry; proven administrative and relational abilities that are essential for developing and implementing programs that draw parents and children alike into the life of the church, skills in teaching and nurturing the spiritual lives of young children, as well as instilling in them a love for God, His Word and His church; and a winsome, collegial spirit in working with other staff and volunteers.

The coordinator will report directly to the pastor with oversight and support provided by the Board of Directors and the Children’s Education Committee.

DUTIES: Develop a comprehensive Children’s Christian Education program through teaching various age groups as well as developing a volunteer team of teachers and workers.

Duties will include:

  • Lead in keeping the children’s classrooms, nursery and environment safe, clean and child-friendly (positive) for children, parents and visitors.
  • Prayerfully consider, plan and cooperate in outreach to children and their families in the community.
  • Plan a minimum of four (4) special children’s events annually.
  • Recommend programs, facility and ministry improvements when appropriate and/or needed
  • Provide teacher trainings as needed.
  • Provide parent orientations and follow0up visitation with regular attendees and visitors as needed.
