Below you will find the most current list of Mentored Ministry Opportunities in the Hamilton Campus area, especially pertaining to Worship & Music Ministry.

Our office strives to keep the listings below as up to date as possible. All postings have a trained and approved mentor in place. Please note that while these postings reflect the desire of certain ministries and churches to have a seminarian work with them, ministry opportunities for GCTS students are not limited to this list.

SEVEN MILE ROAD CHURCH (Waltham) - Worship

POSITION: Seven Mile Road Church (Waltham) is seeking a part-time worship leader in a church plant context. (Open to male applicants, only.) We will have preview services in June, July and August, and start regular weekly gatherings in September. Responsibilities would include directing Sunday morning worship, coordination of band members, choosing music in accordance with the vision, mission, and values of SMR, and coordination of set-up/tear-down on Sundays. Applicant should be a strong vocalist and proficient in guitar and/or keyboard, as well as meet the qualifications of a deacon outlined in 1 Timothy 8 - 13. HOURS: 15 hours per week.

FINANCES: Pay commensurate with experience. 

TIME: Start as early as this Summer, with flexibility to start in September; one-year commitment required. 

OTHER: Seven Mile Road Church is a diverse, gospel-formed family of servant missionaries that exists to make disciples in Waltham by providing clear and compelling witness to the real Jesus. Our big dream is to give everyone in Waltham the repeated opportunity to see and savor the truth, goodness and beauty of Jesus Christ.

POSITION: We are looking for a growing follower of Jesus Christ to serve as our worship leader. (Open to male candidates, only.) He should demonstrate knowledge of Scripture and theology of worship, as well as a grasp of basic music theory and the ability to lead with vocals and guitar/piano. The mentee will work closely with the pastor to plan and carry out Sunday evening worship service.

HOURS: 10 hours per week.

FINANCES: Travel stipend.  

TIME: Summer 2017; Fall 2017; Flexible.

OTHER: Redeeming Grace is a brand new, Christ-centered, Bible-believing church plant. We exist to see the gospel transform people into a community on mission for the worship of Jesus Christ. The mentee would learn the nuts and bolts of worship leadership in a young church planting context. He will also benefit from working directly and in a hands-on manner with our leadership.  

TRAVEL TIME: 40 Minutes from Gordon-Conwell.


POSITION: We are looking for a student with strong vocal and guitar leadership to help lead the existing music team in our small church. As the worship team leader, he/she will choose songs for each service, oversee other musicians, recruit and train new volunteers, work closely with the pastor to create a cohesive worship service, and lead the Sunday morning worship services. He/she should be familiar with the most theologically rich songs, from traditional hymns to contemporary modern style.

HOURS: 10 hours per week.   

FINANCES: $100 per week out of $5,000 budgeted for this position for 2017.

TIME: Flexible; we prefer a student who will be available for as long a duration as possible. 

OTHER: Danville Baptist Church is a 200 year old church seeking to reach our contemporary culture with the ever-relevant gospel. As a small church of about 90 on a typical Sunday, we offer a seminarian an opportunity to do ministry, develop relationships with a wide range of people, and experience the nuts and bolts of church life.

TRAVEL TIME: 60 minutes from Gordon-Conwell.

CITY ON A HILL CHURCH - Worship Resident

POSITION:  The worship resident will work closely with the Pastor of Worship and other staff to help craft worship gatherings, choose songs and liturgy, and play and sing with the worship team. Vocal ability is a must, and the ability to play an instrument is a plus. The resident will lead worship approximately once a month and play on the team regularly. We’re looking for someone who is teachable and deeply invested and interested in working in a team ministry setting in a church plant.

HOURS: 10 - 20 hours per week (negotiable).

FINANCES: Housing may be available. Small stipend negotiable.

TIME: Begins Fall 2016 or January 2017.

TRAVEL TIME: 50 minutes from Gordon-Conwell.

REDEEMER CHURCH - Worship Leader

POSITION: We are looking for a student who can lead musical worship vocally and instrumentally in a new gospel-centered, urban church plant. In this position, the student will select songs and scripture passages for the Sunday worship gathering and help lead the church in musical worship. The student will also work closely with the lead pastor and meet regularly for mentoring and discipleship.

HOURS: 10 hours per week.

FINANCES: Some financial pay is available.

TIME: Fall, 2015.

POSITION: Are you passionate about reaching the world’s largest cities for Christ? We’re looking for someone who is gifted in leading others in worship through music and song, as well as someone who is passionate about ministry in a young, diverse, urban environment. This position provides opportunity for growth in a variety of ministry contexts and will allow for opportunities to serve based upon interest and affinity. In addition to coordinating music with Ruggles’ teaching team, the candidate will be responsible for discipling members of the worship team. The candidate may have an opportunity to gain preaching experience in our Sunday morning worship service.

HOURS: 10-15 hours per week.

FINANCES: A small transportation stipend is available.

TIME: Fall (1-year commitment is preferred).

OTHER: The candidate will receive mentoring from a Gordon-Conwell graduate. Our church is located on Beacon Street and is surrounded by numerous college campuses.

TRAVEL TIME: 45 minutes from Gordon-Conwell.


POSITION: Student will help lead worship through music and song in a multi-ethnic, multicultural context; engage in gospel-centered, urban/inner-city ministry; receive one-on-one pastoral oversight and mentoring session designed for equipping and encouragement; and direct hands-on ministry within the urban context (music ministry, neighborhood prayer walks, church functions, and outreach events). We are seeking a male or female student who loves Jesus and the local church, is able to play an instrument (keys, drums, bass, electric guitars), is teachable and willing to learn and submit to pastoral leadership, and is willing to engage with and learn from people of different socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.

HOURS: 10 hours per week.

FINANCES: $50 per week (or $200-$250 per full month).

TIME FRAME: Available immediately.

OTHER: Christ the King Dorchester (PCA) is just one congregation that is part of a wider network of a multi-congregation church-planting church called Christ The King.  We are based in and on mission for Dorchester, a richly diverse inner-city neighborhood of metro Boston. The Mission of Christ the King Dorchester is to extend the Kingdom of God throughout Dorchester and beyond.

POSITION: The Forestdale Community Church of Malden is looking for a musically gifted Worship Leader to lead our Worship Team for two worship services on Sunday mornings at 8:30am and 11:00am. The ministry involves the coordination and planning of music with the Pastor, and practice one evening every other week to rehearse music for the Sunday worship services.

FINANCES: Between $3,800-and $5,000 for the year. 

HOURS: 10 hours per week.

TIME FRAME: Per start up times of Mentored Ministry (Summer, Fall, and Spring)

OTHER: We are a community of people seeking to love God, love others, and make disciples as we go. Ideally we would love to have a musician who is looking for a church home during their years in seminary, and not simply looking to fulfill a Mentored Ministry requirement. We would love to have the student become part of our family.
