Leadership from Workplace to Churchplace
What is leadership?
Leadership has been defined in many ways, but it involves moving people and projects forward toward a desired result. Leaders guide, direct, inspire and empower colleagues and followers to reach their objectives. Not always easy in the church or marketplace!
What is good, effective leadership? And what is faithful, godly leadership?
We may have some image of a forceful “command-and-control” voice at the top. Bluster and charisma may be defining characteristics for some. So, it is interesting that Jesus taught that the true leader is actually the one who serves. What does that look like today?
The Mockler Center is honored to present a panel of four veteran leaders from the worlds of church, education, technology and business. After they each share a few of their lessons learned about leadership—in both the church and the marketplace—we will have a free-swinging discussion.

 Catherine Blake is founder and CEO of Sales Protocol International. For more than 20 years, she has pursued her passion for sales, marketing, business and personal development to help companies grow through strategic initiatives, execution and hard work. Her clients have ranged from Fortune 500 giants, like GTE and IBM, to small start-ups. She is the founder of “Marketplace Connection,” a business leadership fellowship that promotes ethics, integrity and a constructive Christian presence in the business world. She earned her B.A. from Pine Manor College and her Executive M.B.A. at Harvard. |
Gina Casey |
 Gina Casey is senior pastor of Columbus Avenue AME Zion Church in Boston, MA. Before coming to Boston in 2010, she served for 15 years as pastor of Fisher Chapel AME Zion Church in Phoenix, AZ. Gina also served as manager of information technology, capital purchasing and college recruiting for the Intel Corporation for nine years. She is a graduate of Howard University (B.B.A.), American University (M.S. in Information Systems) and Fuller Seminary (M.A. in Biblical & Theological Studies), and is currently a student at Gordon-Conwell in the D.Min. Workplace Theology, Ethics & Leadership program. |
Jewel Hyun |
 Jewel Hyun is adjunct professor at Bakke Graduate University in Seattle, WA, and the founder and president of Matthew 28 Ministries, which provides development and leadership training to women in Kenya for ministry to those with HIV/AIDS and community transformation through micro-entrepreneurship. She previously worked in the financial industry for more than 25 years, specializing in information technology, and developed her own IT consulting practice. She earned her M.A. and M.S. degrees in Nuclear Physics from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, and her M.A. and D.Min. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. |
Sharon Peters-Harden |
| Sharon Peters-Harden is principal at North Shore Christian School in Lynn, MA. She has worked in Detroit and Minneapolis urban and suburban school districts as a classroom teacher, district program administrator and private and charter school program designer. Her career and professional interests have included nonprofit leadership and work in the area of educational equity. Sharon holds a B.S. in Business Management, an M.A. in Organizational Leadership and is currently completing an Ed.D. at Bethel University in Education Administration. |
