Bishop of Church of God of Prophecy to Teach at Gordon-Conwell
October 4, 2013
The Doctor of Ministry Office at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary welcomes Dr. Hector Ortiz, Bishop and Director of the Center for Biblical Leadership for the Church of God of Prophecy, as a co-mentor for their new track in Global Pentecostalism.
“Dr. Ortiz brings first-hand awareness of the opportunities and challenges facing those ministering in Pentecostal contexts around the world,” says Doctor of Ministry Director Dr. David Currie. “In addition, his own Ph.D. research in the history of Pentecostalism brings an expertise that complements an outstanding team of co-mentors, guest instructors and guest presenters. I am delighted to welcome him as a co-mentor for this track!”
The primary aim of the “Global Pentecostalism: Modalities, Ministry and Mission” Doctor of Ministry track is to train pastors and community leaders to serve Pentecostal churches and the wider, increasingly multicultural communities where Pentecostalism is flourishing, particularly—though not exclusively—among Spanish speakers.
In addition to Dr. Ortiz, the teaching team includes Gordon-Conwell faculty Dr. Alvin Padilla, Dean of Hispanic Ministries and Professor of New Testament, and Dr. Eldin Villafañe, Professor of Christian Social Ethics. The track will also feature several guest instructors and presenters, including Drs. Peter Kuzmic, Eva B. and Paul E. Toms Distinguished Professor of World Missions and European Studies at Gordon-Conwell; Pablo Polishuk, Professor of Pastoral Counseling and Psychology at Gordon-Conwell; Todd Johnson, Associate Professor of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell; Roberto Miranda, Senior Pastor at Congregación León de Judá in Boston, MA; and Marc Rivera, Senior Pastor of Primitive Christian Church in N.Y.C.
“The development of this D.Min. track with Dr. Ortiz as a co-mentor marks the continued growth of a vision for advancing Christ’s Kingdom shared by Gordon-Conwell and COGOP,” says Currie. The Global Pentecostalism track is scheduled to begin in January 2015 with residencies in the Caribbean & Hamilton, MA.
