Gordon-Conwell–Charlotte and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) Partner to Launch EPC Mentored Apprenticeship Program

August 1, 2017

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary–Charlotte is pleased to announce that the campus is partnering with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) to launch the EPC Mentored Apprenticeship (MAP) program, an initiative to provide future EPC ministers with denominationally aligned, more practical, and less expensive parish-based preparation for ministry.

The MAP program consists of eight (8) ministry and Christian thought courses developed collaboratively by the EPC and faculty at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Students complete these courses locally, under the oversight of a qualified EPC Instructor and the mentorship of a student’s local pastor or another EPC ministry leader. In addition to course readings, videos, and assignments that students might expect in a traditional seminary course, students also undertake a significant in-parish ministry project for each course, helping them gain valuable ministry experience in their local context.

Students preparing for EPC ordination, regardless of the seminary they attend, can take up to eight (8) of these courses at half the regular cost of Gordon-Conwell–Charlotte tuition, a savings of more than $750 per course over regular tuition rates.

The courses are:

• Ministry as Mission (Next Offering: Fall 2017) (Note: Developed by Dr. Mike Moses, former EPC Moderator)
• Evangelism: Theories & Practice (Next Offering: Fall 2017)
• Christian Ethics (Next Offering: Fall 2017)
• Pastoral Counseling (Next Offering: Spring 2018)
• Apologetics (Next Offering: Spring 2018) • Foundations for Leadership (Next Offering: Spring 2018)
• Discipleship and Disciplemaking (Next Offering: Summer 2018)
• Preaching: Principles & Practices (Next Offering: Summer 2018)

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary also now offers a specialized EPC track for the seminary’s Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program. Students can complete their M.Div. EPC track program at any of the seminary’s four campuses (South Hamilton, MA; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Jacksonville, FL) or primarily online through a combination of synchronous or asynchronous class offerings. In addition, Gordon-Conwell’s innovative Partnership Program full tuition-scholarship makes it possible for students to graduate debt-free.

Finally, non-degree seeking students who complete six (6) or more of the MAP program have the opportunity to earn a completion certificate. This is an ideal program for any non-ordained church or parachurch leader and/or staff member.
