New Vice President for Finance and Operations/CFO Appointed

September 26, 2012

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jay Trewern as Gordon-Conwell’s new Vice President for Finance and Operations/CFO. Mr. Trewern comes to Gordon-Conwell having served nearly 13 years as Vice President for Business and Finance at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX.

Mr. Trewern holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, with a concentration in Accounting. In his current position as VP for Business and Finance he has provided administrative oversight to the following units: Budgeting, Finance, Accounting, Student Financial Aid, Human Resources, Information Technologies, Physical Facilities, the Bookstore, Food Services and Risk Management.

In his oversight of Capital Construction, Jay served as project manager for the construction of four new buildings. During his tenure as Chair of the Campus Master Planning Committee, the square footage of the SAGU campus has doubled. Trewern has also negotiated highly favorable financing terms and conditions for the University. During his tenure, two rounds of SACS regional re-accreditation were completed with a high level of success in areas related to finance.

Previous to his current position, Mr. Trewern served for seven years as Assistant Town Manager then Town Manager for Clarkdale, AZ where he was responsible for all facets of Municipal government, including finance, budgeting, grant writing, police, fire, buildings, streets, sewer systems, trash, zoning, Boards, Commissions, and Town Council functions.

Mr. Trewern is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God denomination, and has served on pastoral staff with several churches. He is married to Trish Trewern, a licensed minister with the AG, who has served as Women’s Ministries Director for the North Texas District. She has also served in various roles at SAGU including as an admissions counselor, projects planning coordinator, and assistant chaplain. She continues to play an active discipleship/mentoring role on campus with young women. Trish is a frequent speaker and has been invited to preach in 7 different countries. Trish and Jay have recently completed a short-term assignment as interim co-pastors of the International Christian Fellowship Church in Rome, Italy. The Trewern’s have two adult sons, Kyle and Kendall.

Trewern will begin his position at Gordon-Conwell on November 1, 2012. He comes with the warm affirmation of SAGU President Kermit S. Bridges who wrote the following when announcing Jay’s resignation to the university community:

To describe Jay’s service to this institution as distinguished is an understatement. Jay Trewern typifies our core value of servant leadership. The administrative areas under his charge operate at the highest level of excellence and his fair-minded and collaborative approach to leadership have earned him respect by all who interact with him… I think it is particularly meaningful that several months ago the Alumni Association selected Jay to be the recipient of the 2012 Honorary Alumnus Award that will be presented during our upcoming Homecoming activities.
