Master of Theology Program (Th.M.)
The Master of Theology (Th.M.) is an academic research degree taking advantage
of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s own faculty and the extensive
Boston Theological Institute library resources and its broadly comprehensive
faculty.
The work for the Master of Theology degree may be regarded as a fourth year of
preparation for the Christian ministry or for preparation for advanced study.
The Master of Theology degree is designed to allow students to complete the degree
requirements within a typical academic year from September to May. The degree
may be taken on a part time basis, completing the degree in no more than three
calendar years from the date of matriculation. The Master of Theology degree
is intended for students who wish to specialize in one of the disciplines offered
in the curriculum.
Master of Theology in Preaching
The concentration in preaching provides students with a year of advanced research
and study in the field of homiletics. Students will need to have a firm grasp
of biblical exegesis, biblical content, languages, and theology since these areas
are integral to preaching.
Students will shape their course of study with the assistance of their
faculty advisor. Students take eight courses and must include the Master
of Theology
Research Methods Seminar (901) and PR 926A/B The Preacher and the Message in
their course of study. Two of the eight courses may be taken outside the area
of preaching, with the director’s approval.
