Lecturing and Mentoring Professors   |   Semlink Teaching Fellows   |   Semlink Staff

Semlink Teaching Fellows are students of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary who have demonstrated outstanding ability within their specific discipline and intend to pursue further study leading to careers in academia. Together with the mentoring professors they generate the Integration Questions that are posted in the online forums, and they provide email Conversation Starters on each course homepage in order to nurture an increased level of interactivity and community for our Semlink courses. Working closely with the faculty who lecture and mentor the courses, Teaching Fellows act as the first line of contact with questions related to your course.

APPLIED MINISTRY

  Peggy Kim
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Semlink Teaching Fellow for Applied Ministry

Biographical Information: Peggy Kim was born in Illinois where she grew up until coming out to the East Coast for college. She attended Brown University where she majored in American History and also received a teaching certificate in secondary science education. After graduating from Brown, she happily returned home to teach high school science at Buffalo Grove High School in Buffalo Grove, IL. She taught there for five years, all the while hoping to be called somewhere overseas as a missionary. After entertaining the thought of being a teacher in an MK school, she decided to attend GCTS to further prepare for however God may use her in the future. Though first entering under the Masters in Missions and Evangelism program, she switched after her first year to the M.Div. program, with a concentration in Missions and Evangelism. She is also in the process of pursuing a second Masters in Educational Ministry. (Peggy just canŐt seem to get away from her love of teaching!) Peggy recently married fellow GCTS student, Joe Chun, and they are currently serving together at the Korean Presbyterian Church in Greater Boston in Hopkinton, MA. Both are seeking to see how God will lead them in the next few years.

Her research interests include women and Separatist tendencies within early 20th century American Fundamentalism. Laura and her husband, Clayton, are very involved at North Shore Community Baptist Church, where she works with the College group, sings in the choir, and is involved with a small group. Laura has previously served as a Byington Scholar for Dr. Catherine Kroeger and a Greek Teaching Assistant for Dr. Jim Critchlow and Dr. Dave Mathewson. Ryan is the son of Chong and Eun Yi who immigrated from Korea and is the first of three boys. Ryan went to Dartmouth College, a liberal arts school in Hanover, NH where he majored in Religion. It was at Dartmouth where Ryan truly accepted Christ. Thinking that God called him to be a doctor, God changed that as God called Ryan to pastoral ministry his junior year in college. Ryan came to Gordon-Conwell in the fall of 2003 to pursue a Masters in Divinity. It was in the fall that Ryan found Highrock Church where he now serves as the College Pastor. Ryan loves Highrock's community and purpose and also serves as chair of the welcoming and integration ministry of the church. It has been at Highrock that Ryan has been able to apply what he has learned at seminary. He plans on staying at Highrock for as long as he can because it's a church he truly loves.

She eventually decided to be a peace-maker and pester professors at Gordon-Conwell instead. She has a heart for Asia and has been to Asia many times on missions and personal trips and hopes to walk alongside the Asian churches in the future. She currently attends Highrock Church in Arlington. The most accurate summary of her interests, which are admittedly broad, include the application of theology to spiritual praxis, the history and development of Christian thought, the contextualization of theology to time, place and cultural context, comparative religion, and inter-religious dialogue.
