Technical Requirements

While the course materials themselves can be obtained
in a fairly low-tech format (the educational packet provides a hard copy
of the course
notebook and lectures on audio cassette), the interactivity requirements
for each course necessitate some access to basic technology. If you do
not have access to your own computer, consider whether you have frequent
and easy access to internet-connected computers at your local library.

In order to make use of the Semlink website and the Semlink
course CD-ROM, you will also need to have some third party software installed
on your computer. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader in
order to view some of the course documents like the syllabus and course
snapshot. You will also need some kind of browser plug-in like RealOne
player from Real Networks, or Quicktime from Apple to play back the lecture
audio or audio samples from the Semlink website. These are all free downloads,
and links to these products are provided below.
