Is Semlink For You?

We have worked hard to make the Semlink program user-friendly and engaging while maintaining the academic excellence associated with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. However, it is important to understand that distance learning is not suited for everyone. People who tend to succeed in the Semlink program often have these qualitites:

TIME AVAILABILITY:

To complete the course successfully requires a time commitment and dedication to the course of study. To that end, students should plan on allocating three hours of study for every hour spent listening to the lectures (a typical course consists of 30 hours of lecture). This includes time spent online interacting with faculty, teaching fellows and peers in the various discussion forums.

TIME MANAGEMENT:

Once registered for a Semlink course, you are given six months to complete it. While this extended period of time is one of the benefits of Semlink, students can find themselves nearing the end of this time limit with a great deal of work remaining. Students are encouraged to set aside a regular time of study each week to get the most out of the program. Please note: extensions without penalty are only granted for unavoidable circumstances ( more info...)

TAKING INITIATIVE:

Successful Semlink students take initiative in participating in online discussions. Students should be proactive in contacting teaching fellows, faculty and/or Semlink staff with questions and concerns as they arise. These people are available and willing to help you. Problems are best addressed in the early stages of a course.

If you have any concerns about these qualities, and your ability to fulfill the course requirements for a Semlink course, please feel free to contact the Semlink Office to discuss the matter further.
