Dr. Robinson joined Gordon-Conwell in 1991. From July 2007 to August 2008, he served as Interim President of Gordon-Conwell. Prior to joining Gordon-Conwell, Dr. Robinson had served 12 years (1979-1991) as President of Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary in Denver, CO. From 1970-1979, he was General Director of the Christian Medical and Dental Society, whose membership is made up of more than 7,000 physicians and dentists in the United States. He also directed the Dallas Youth for Christ (1952-55), was Associate Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Medford, OR (1956-58), and served as Instructor of Speech at the University of Illinois (1960-62). In addition, he taught homiletics on the faculty of Dallas Theological Seminary for 19 years.

Dr. Robinson is widely regarded as an expert in the area of preaching. Most recently, he was given the 2008 Living Legend Award at the Living Legend Luncheon sponsored by E. K. Bailey Ministries, Inc. He was named one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world in a 1996 Baylor University poll and was later also named among Christianity Today International’s Top 25 Most Influential Preachers from 1956-2006.
   
He has done extensive work in the areas of radio and television. He was the host for the television program Film Festival.  Along with Dr. Alice Mathews, Lois W. Bennett Distinguished Emerita Professor of Educational Ministries and Women's Ministries for Gordon-Conwell, he hosts Discover the Word (formerly Radio Bible Class), a daily radio program of RBC Ministries in Grand Rapids, MI, which is broadcast 600 times a day on stations around the world.

Dr. Robinson was president of the Evangelical Theological Society (1983) and has served on the executive committee for that group of evangelical scholars. He also currently serves on the boards of EvanTell, Marketplace Network and the Evangelistic Association of New England.

A prolific writer, Dr. Robinson has edited the Christian Medical Society Journal, the Theological Annual, Preaching and Christianity Today. He has also published articles in Christianity Today, Bibliotheca Sacra, Moody Monthly, the American Lutheran Magazine, Leadership and Decision. He writes regularly for Our Daily Bread, a devotional that goes to seven million people each month, and he has written or edited numerous books.

Dr. Robinson is keenly interested in ministry in the workplace. He speaks and preaches constantly at conferences and churches both in the U.S. and overseas.

Dr. Robinson also enjoys working out. He and his wife, Bonnie, live on the South Hamilton campus.
