Oasis

Oasis provides individual counsel to Gordon-Conwell alumni who are facing a crisis of some sort (chronic conflict in the church, marital stress, moral failure, etc.). This resource also may be helpful to alumni facing a transition (examination of call, questions about whether to relocate, issues in facing retirement, etc.) and could include conversations in a group setting or individual counsel.

Oasis is led by Dr. Ken Swetland, long time faculty member of Gordon-Conwell and former academic dean of the Hamilton campus. His book The Hidden World of the Pastor: Case Studies on Personal Issues of Real Pastors was published in 1995, by Baker Book House. His most recent book Facing Messy Stuff in the Church: Case Studies for Pastors and Congregations was published by Kregel Publications in 2005.

Since coming to Gordon-Conwell, Dr. Swetland has served as interim pastor and supply speaker for many New England churches. He has also worked as a psychotherapist over a span of 12 years at Gordon-Conwell Counseling Center, Health Integration Services in Peabody and Willowdale Center for Psychological Services in Hamilton. As a pastoral counselor he specializes in the areas of personal growth, stress and conflict management and marital therapy.
