Reformation 500: Department Lutheran Studies to Offer Luther: Life & Legacy Course

June 26, 2017

In observance of the 500th anniversary of Luther’s posting of the 95 Theses, the Deptartment of Lutheran Studies at Gordon-Conwell–Charlotte is offering this non credit course. It is open to anyone, lay and clergy, who desires to participate in a guided study of Luther’s life and theology.

The Luther: Life and Legacy course will be offered over three Friday evening (7:00-9:00 pm)/Saturday morning and afternoon (9:00am-2:00pm) sessions. Each weekend session will build upon the previous weekend session. In other words, it is one course that meets three times.

What will we learn or re-learn? An overview of Luther’s life in light of recent research, study of select writings of Luther on topics like:
• How are we saved?
• How can I be sure of salvation?
• What is the importance of sacraments? • So who is Jesus?
• Should we be involved in politics?

Our study of Luther’s life and writings will serve as a basis for our discussions relative to the continuing import of Luther and the Reformation for the church and the world in the 21st century.
