COMING SOON: Find more online with WorldCat Discovery!

July 2, 2015

July 6, 2015 – a new tool will be available to GCTS students, staff and faculty that will open up the WORLD of research!

With WorldCat Discovery, you will have the ability to search Gordon-Conwell’s library holdings – both print and electronic – as well the holdings of thousands of libraries throughout the world in a single search interface.

The library will also begin using WorldShare Management Services (WMS) behind the scenes to organize and manage print and electronic resources.

The month of July will serve as a transition period as we move off of our current library system. For a limited time, users will need to check both the “Classic Catalog” and Discovery to get an accurate account of what books are still on library shelves. The WorldCat Discovery search interface will be slightly limited—online renewals and requests will not be available at first. Throughout the Summer, we will be phasing in new features and resources.

It’s not quite ready, but you can check out WorldCat Discovery now!

Here is a quick preview of enhancements to come:

  • Perform quick keyword searches that locate electronic and print books and articles available at GCTS and throughout the world. (NOW!)
  • Limit searches to specific GCTS campuses. (Late July)
  • Log into WorldCat Discovery using your GCTS username/password to renew or request items (no-more separate logins!). (Late July-early August)
  • Place hold requests on items that are already checked out using WorldCat Discovery. (Late July-early August)
  • Request interlibrary loan books through WorldCat Discovery (items will be available for pick-up at each campus). (August)

Pay attention to your GCTS email! We will be sending more information about how WorldCat Discovery will enhance your research and impact library services! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the library staff!
