Qualifications for Faculty Candidates

For faculty teaching at Gordon-Conwell, be it at the Hamilton, Boston, Charlotte or Jacksonville campus, it is understood that the person seeking a faculty position will have demonstrated competence in the classroom and scholarly participation in the field. In almost all cases, the ideal candidate should have graduate theological training and be prepared to carry the normal academic load of seven courses per year.

Candidates for teaching positions will be persons of outstanding Christian character who have a history of significant involvement with the local church. The candidate should also be a person with flexibility to work with colleagues who come from different backgrounds with a variety of theological orientations within the evangelical tradition. It is expected that faculty members at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary will be concerned for the total development of students including their spiritual nurture. The seminary student population is drawn from over 100 different denominations and a large number of countries of origin. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

It is expected that candidates will read and be able to affirm Gordon-Conwell’s statement of faith, the mission of GCTS, and community life statement. The history and tradition of the seminary is an important context for those interested in teaching here to understand.

“A workplace is often just a place to work. I have found working at Gordon-Conwell to be more than that. It is a place of community and caring in the midst of some difficult work. I think when we talk to our students and then hear what the alumni are doing throughout the world, we realize why we love to work together: we are making a difference. And every day is a day to grow in our understanding about the global church!” – President Scott Sunquist
