Supervision for High-Stakes Work: IPV, War Zones & Supervisee Wellness

Supervision for High-Stakes Work: IPV, War Zones & Supervisee Wellness equips clinical supervisors to lead effectively in complex, trauma-heavy contexts. This 2-hour continuing education event focuses on supervising intimate partner violence cases, disaster and war-zone settings, and supporting supervisee wellness under sustained stress.
Led by Dr. Taylor Patterson, Dr. Cynthia Fisher, and Dr. Julia Guan, the training draws on trauma-informed care, family systems theory, and cross-cultural clinical practice to strengthen supervision alliances, manage primary and secondary trauma, and promote ethical, resilient supervision.
The session includes focused instruction and case-based application centered on regulation, differentiation of self, and ethical decision-making in high-risk environments.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Apply trauma-informed supervisory competencies in high-risk contexts, including intimate partner violence (IVP) cases, disaster/crisis environments, and secondary traumatic stress management.
- Strengthen supervision alliances by fostering psychological safety, enhancing supervisee confidence in crises, and supporting ethical decision-making under heightened risk.
- Identify their own vulnerabilities for experiencing compassion fatigue as it relates to differentiation of self, family of origin, and secondary trauma exposure.
- Apply supervision strategies to facilitate supervisee awareness of vulnerabilities and the ability to regulate in session.
