Drs. Todd Johnson and Gina Zurlo and the cover of One Part of the Body: The Potential Impact of Deportations on American Christian Families

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s Center for the Study of Global Christianity (CSGC) partnered with the National Association of Evangelicals, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and World Relief to produce a report on the impact of proposed deportations on American Christian families. The CSGC is co-led by Dr. Todd Johnson, Eva B. and Paul E. Toms Distinguished Professor of Mission and Global Christianity, and Dr. Gina Zurlo.

Titled “One Part of the Body: The Potential Impact of Deportations on American Christian Families,” the new report includes an analysis of three groups of immigrant individuals and uses data from the World Christian Database (edited by Drs. Zurlo and Johnson), Pew Research Center, and FWD.us, to estimate the religious affiliation of these distinct groups. The research shows that at the end of 2024, there were more than ten million Christian immigrants present in the United States who are vulnerable to deportation. Overall, about 80% of all of those at risk of deportation are Christians, including about 61% who are Catholic, 13% who are Evangelical, and 7% who are adherents to other Christian traditions.

More information on these figures and the potential impact of the deportations is available in the full report and was also covered by Christianity Today (CT).
