Alumnus Christian Schmitt Receives Preaching Today Award
Recent alumnus Christian Schmitt (MDiv ’22) is one of the recipients of the 2022 Preaching Today Biblical Preaching Award. Preaching Today is a Christianity Today resource that “seeks to inspire preachers to cultivate their craft in order to faithfully and creatively proclaim God’s word.”
Each award-wining sermon is comprised of faithful biblical exposition, a clear and simple structure, creative illustrations, pastoral application to daily life, and urgency in delivery.
In “The Point of Power” based on Mark 4, Christian explores how Jesus’s ministry sets the example for today’s church to focus on reaching “outsiders” and all those who have yet to hear the good news of the gospel. He preaches that, “We should use our power for the deepest benefit of the outsider. And even when our power doesn’t seem to be working, God can still be working through his power.” Read the sermon in its entirety on Preaching Today.
