According to a Baylor Religion Survey (2006), many Christians experience cognitive dissonance between their belief in God’s benevolence and their perceived experience of God as critical, wrathful, or distant. In a new article for the Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care, Dr. John Jefferson Davis, senior professor of systematic theology and Christian ethics, suggests methods to help Christians integrate a biblically-informed understanding of God’s character throughout their spiritual life.

The article, “Renovating Our Images of God: Neuroscience and Biblical Meditation,” offers solutions rooted in both spiritual formation practices and insights from neuroscience.
