Drs. Todd Johnson and Gina Zurlo and the cover of One Part of the Body: The Potential Impact of Deportations on American Christian Families

One year after the release of “One Part of the Body: The Potential Impact of Deportations on American Christian Families,” Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s Center for the Study of Global Christianity (CSGC) joined fellow co-authors the National Association of Evangelicals, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and World Relief to reflect on the report’s findings and the current state of immigration law enforcement.

The report drew on data from the World Christian Database, edited by CSGC co-directors Dr. Todd Johnson, Eva B. and Paul E. Toms Distinguished Professor of Mission and Global Christianity, and Dr. Gina Zurlo. Their research estimated that more than 10 million Christian immigrants in the United States were vulnerable to deportation as of the end of 2024—representing roughly 80 percent of all those at risk. At the one-year gathering in March 2026, Dr. Johnson shared that intensifying enforcement measures and shifting immigration policies are damaging the American Christian contribution to global Christianity.
