GCI Ministry Competency Program
Our competency-based approach provides a one-year, interactive experience designed to complement and enhance your theological education through small cohorts of 24–30 people.
- Participate in both virtual and in-person communal learning opportunities with world-renowned scholars
- Engage with GCI advisors and mentors in small, local communities of practice
- Competency-based training and discussion
- Enjoy the space, resources, and camaraderie needed to enrich your ministry journey

Our Program Advisors (PAs) will ensure that you have access to wisdom & guidance specific to your context. To achieve this, PAs will:
- Support GCI: Provide two-way communication with GCI to uphold the objectives of the course and communicate the ministerial contexts in which these are applied.
- Support Program Mentors: Offer guidance in their assessment and feedback.
- Support You: Facilitate cohort and group meetings, offering feedback and guidance on your development across the program.
Program Mentors
Our Program Mentors (PMs) also ensure you have access to wisdom & guidance specific to your ministry context. To achieve this, PMs will:
- Lead discussions on specific content and skills each quarter.
- Assist you in identifying the pros and cons of your individual learning style and approach.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to you, including ideas to improve your work and suggestions to adapt your approach to learning in the future based on your development through the program.
- Assess your progress through the program and progress toward mastery of specific competencies.

- Strategic formation by focusing on life-long learning and growth, enabling you to become more effective at crossing communities and cultures with informed awareness and a collaborative posture.
- Ministerial formation by focusing on Christ-centered preaching, communication, and administration, enabling you to become more effective in multiplying leaders and communities.
- Spiritual formation by focusing on intimacy with God, enabling you to deepen intimacy in all relationships and become more reflective and Christ-centered.
For this learning to be enriched, GCI will have self-directed learning materials broken into 8 sessions for you.

Communal Learning with GCI Korean Advisor
Learn More
Each quarter, you will have an in-person communal learning opportunity facilitated by a trusted expert. This 1.5 day of communal learning is designed to provide you with a community of practitioners with whom you can forge long-lasting relationships and partnerships. You will not only interact with and learn from an expert but also add your expertise to help problem-solve and create new innovative ideas with peers in a dynamic and trusting learning community. You will lock into a unique opportunity to contextualize principles learned and apply Biblical truth in your peer mentor groups.

Learn More
Each quarter, you will be given a suggested reading list which will help you deepen your understanding of the subject matter. In addition, transcriptions of each Gordon-Conwell Faculty session will be provided both in English and Korean for your future reference.
15 Hours
Mentor Interactions
Learn More
Each quarter, a program mentor will provide you with the time, resources, and comradery needed to enrich your journey in this program. The cohort will be divided into two groups with a mentor assigned for each, and the mentor will walk with you individually as you reflect upon and self-assess your learning, provide mentor feedback, and help you achieve the desired competency development. These mentor interactions will nurture you to continue your formation beyond the parameters of formal education.
Capstone Project
The Capstone Project provides time and space for you to pilot competencies pursued and measured in this program in a way that is meaningful to your unique, God-given responsibilities. The pilot plan— and its execution—will be reflected communally with peers and mentors in the final in-person communal learning for it to be further adjusted. The Capstone Project will thus help you to embed the rhythm of “Pursuing, Reflecting, and Adjusting” competencies so that they can be possessed in increasing measure for the church to flourish in the gospel.
