Dr. Carolina Benitez Recognized for Work in Hispanic Mental Health Services

Assistant Professor of Counseling Dr. Carolina Benitez has spent years researching Hispanic mental health concerns and developing culturally appropriate strategies for providing services to immigrant families and individuals. In addition to teaching at the Charlotte campus, she serves as the director of the behavioral health programs at Camino Health Center in Charlotte, NC. Camino, with whom Gordon-Conwell has been partnering with for over a year (see annual report video), is a bilingual and multicultural center that provides primary care, behavioral health, health and wellness, and food services to those in need. Gordon-Conwell’s partnership includes increasing access to seminary education for Hispanic and Latino ministry leaders.

The work of Camino and Dr. Benitez was recently featured on Charlotte’s NPR source, WFAE 90.7. Listen to the recording or read the transcript to learn about the impact they are having on the health and lives of some of Charlotte’s most underserved populations.
