Alumna Dr. Gwenfair Adams (MDiv ’89), professor of Church History and Spiritual Formation and director of Christian Formation at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, has been elected vice president of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS). In accordance with the society’s leadership structure, she will serve as vice president this year, president-elect in the coming year, and president the year after.

Dr. Adams’ election marks a historic milestone, as she will become the second woman to serve as president in ETS’ more than 75-year history. Her leadership reflects both her longstanding scholarly contributions and Gordon-Conwell’s ongoing commitment to faithful evangelical scholarship in service to the Church.

“It’s a joy to be invited to serve another organization whose purpose I’m passionate about!” says Dr. Adams. “ETS fosters scholarly research in a wide range of theologically-related disciplines, all grounded in a love of the Trinity, the Scriptures, and the gospel.  And it offers regional and national conferences that serve as highlights of the year for thousands of professors, pastors, independent scholars, and students. I’m looking forward to working with the board—comprised of scholars for whom I have great respect—and to serving the Lord in this new role.”

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s president, Dr. Scott Sunquist, adds that, “As both an alumna and a valued member of our faculty, Dr. Adams is deeply committed to forming students and Christian leaders to think theologically and be deeply shaped for faithful service. We are delighted by her appointment and pray God’s blessings over her leadership.”
