Gordon-Conwell and Real Estate Investors Enter into Agreement for Apartments Sale

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary is staying in Hamilton and seeking to sell its underutilized apartments while continuing to provide residential education. The sale would enable the seminary to best steward its finances and mission, and it would also be beneficial for the Town of Hamilton because it would provide much-needed tax revenue while preserving the campus beauty and access the community has long enjoyed. The seminary has an interested buyer with close ties to the Hamilton community, and a key requirement to proceed with the sale was for the land to be rezoned (this is called the Brown’s Hill Overlay District).

On December 9, 2025, the rezoning was approved with strong support from town boards and residents, surpassing the two-thirds majority required for passage. With this vote, we will now proceed with final due diligence with the buyers. Thank you to all who voiced their support for the future of the seminary and the town.

Amid changes in higher education and the Church, Gordon-Conwell continues to prayerfully reimagine the seminary in ways that expand its reach and better fulfill its mission for God’s glory. This has included efforts to right-size the Hamilton campus to best steward the seminary’s finances and enhance community life. This is one aspect of Gordon-Conwell’s strategic and spiritual Renewal, while also providing needed tax revenue for the town.

The Seminary remains deeply committed to residential theological education and will remain on the Hamilton campus. While the apartments will have new ownership following the closing of the sale, housing for full-time Hamilton students will continue in both the dorms and apartments. The buyers look forward to having Gordon-Conwell residents in the apartments.
