Richard-Armstrong-Gordon-Conwell
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary grieves the loss of alumnus and Trustee Emeritus Richard Armstrong. Richard served on the Board for over twenty years, and we are grateful to God for his friendship and service to the Kingdom.

Please read more about him in the obituary below that was authored by his family.

Richard Armstrong, husband of Miriam, father to Rick, Barb, and Brent, grandfather to eight grandchildren (Ruth, Rachel, Ben, Laurabeth, Josh, Nathan, Allaina, Matthew) and five great-grandchildren (JJ, Caleb, Isaac, Wyatt, Oliver) passed away on October 16, 2023, at the age of 88.

Richard’s journey began on July 18, 1935. He was a lifelong learner and deeply passionate about education with a diverse academic background that included Boston Christian High School (now Lexington Christian Academy), Wheaton College (Illinois, BA of Sociology), and Colorado College (Master of Education). Later in life he continued his education at Trinity Divinity School (Illinois, Master of Arts in Religion) and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Hamilton, Honorary Doctorate of Theology).

Throughout his career Richard viewed his work as a vehicle to be used by God to have impact on the lives of those he served and led. Professionally, he made a profound impact as a probation officer for El Paso County, CO, the Director of the Zebulon Pike Detention Center, and a case worker in foster care at the Evangelical Child Welfare Association (ECWA). After leaving EWCA in 1964, Richard spent the remainder of his professional career at ServiceMaster. In 1999, after leaving full time work at ServiceMaster, he continued to serve through his board work for Lexington Christian Academy (LCA), World Relief, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and International Students Inc. (ISI).

Remembering-Richard-Armstrong-Gordon-ConwellRichard was not only an accomplished professional but also an avid outdoorsman, a disciplined fitness enthusiast, and, most importantly, a loving family man. He found great joy in spending time with his family, creating countless cherished memories.

Richard’s legacy as a first-generation follower of Christ will be the eternal impact he has had on 3 generations of his immediate family and the thousands of others with whom he boldly shared the Gospel.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM at The Village Church in Ft Myers, Florida.
