How Dr. David Wells Sparked the New Calvinist Movement

Dr. David Wells, Senior Distinguished Research Professor of Theology, was recently featured by The Gospel Coalition in an article titled “How a Former Radical Sparked the New Calvinist Movement.” The article shares the story of Wells’ life and the impact of his series of books on the renewal of evangelical theology that started with No Place for Truth: Or Whatever Happened to Evangelical Theology?. Wells’ former Gordon-Conwell students Mark Dever (M.Div. ’86), Kevin DeYoung (M.Div. ’02), and Michael Lawrence (M.Div. ’97) highlight the influence Wells has had on their lives, the Church, and organizations like The Gospel Coalition.

As Lawrence describes, “Pastors in both the Presbyterian Church in America and the Southern Baptist Convention appreciated his ‘insistence that we have got to return to the primacy of the truth of the Word of God, and relying on the Spirit of God to build his church––not our techniques.'”
