People everywhere are feeling the stress of modern-day life. Economic uncertainty, political acrimony, the unrelenting expectation to “do more with less,” the constant barrage of emails, texts, and social media posts that interrupt our private lives, the promise and threats posed by artificial intelligence, and countless other daily pressures have resulted in unprecedented levels of fear and uncertainty. What is needed is a reclamation of the divine gift of Sabbath.
Sabbath as Resilience: Spiritual Refreshment for a Stressed-Out World will raise your awareness and help you facilitate discussion about how individuals, faith communities, workplaces, and society at large might apply the authors’ expansive views of Sabbath to their everyday lives. Sabbath is an oft-misunderstood concept, traditionally associated with the Judeo-Christian “day of rest” (i.e., a religious ordinance that prohibits manual labor on one specific day of the week). The authors argue that it is that, but so much more. In fact, the Bible teaches that it should be central to how all of us order our lives; set our priorities; use our time; interact with the world around us; treat other people; and ultimately, for people of faith, how we walk with the Lord, individually and as the Body of Christ. All proceeds from purchases of the book will be invested into the Mockler Center to support its work bridging faith and ethics in the public square.
