Biography:
Fred Foy Strang (“Fred Foy”) holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry from Reformed Theological Seminary, a Master of Science by Research from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD from the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non Western World, University of Edinburgh. His publications include: Living with the Maasai, Maasai Oral Literature, African Praise Music, and Maasai Life and Christian Worship and Practice at the End of the 20th Century: A Photographic Portfolio. He chosted the podcast series Moment for Mission as presented at TedX with his wife, Cecily.
Ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament with the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1987, he served with Cecily and their sons, Jesse and Jacob, as a missionary among the Maasai people of Kenya. He has also worked as a solo pastor in both rural settings and in large churches in the ministry areas of youth, contemporary worship, and leadership development in the United States. For a decade, Fred Foy held a dual appointment as professor of missions and philosophy and religion and dean of the Peeke School of Christian Mission and chaplain at King University (Bristol, TN). Dr. Strang is president of the Maasai Special Projects Fund, leading theological education by extension, water projects, and community health programs for the underserved in East Africa. Most recently, Fred Foy and Cecily, a PhD nurse educator, served in full-time missionary service in Kenya with the Antioch Partners and the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. Upon their recent return from field service, Fred Foy has served churches in transitional ministry.
He is also an adjunct faculty member of adjunct faculty of King University, Fuller School of Intercultural Studies, and Indian River State College.
Fred Foy is a scuba diver and outdoorsman, who enjoys music, photography, working on his family’s off-grid, mountain log cabin, piddling around on his old boat, and barbecuing the best country-style pork ribs you’ll ever eat.
