Biography:
Dr. Alice Mathews has served Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary since 1997. She is the former academic dean and is Lois E. Bennett Distinguished Associate Professor Emerita of Educational Ministries and Women’s Ministries at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She also directed the DMin program with Dr. Haddon Robinson and mentored in the Effective Ministries to Women DMin track.
Dr. Mathews is best known for her 23-year production of the daily RBC Bible-teaching program, “Discover the Word,” where she served as producer and co-host alongside Dr. Haddon Robinson and Mart DeHaan.
Dr. Mathews has served as academic dean at the Seminary of the East (Philadelphia Center) and Our Daily Bread University.
Dr. Mathews has dedicated her life to serving women in the church, serving as a founding member alongside Dr. Catherine Clark Kroeger of Christians for Biblical Equality, and as a missionary in both Paris, France, and Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Mathews is the author of many books including Preaching that Speaks to Women, Gender Roles for the People of God: Rethinking What We Were Taught about Men and Women in the Church, and Woman of Strength: Living the Best Life Possible for God in this Broken World. She has been a regular speaker at women’s retreats, conferences, and churches.
