Expertise: Theology of John Calvin, Worship in the Reformed Tradition

Biography:
A native of North Carolina, Dr. Colson is a graduate of Furman University. After college, he and his wife, Melissa, worked with a university ministry sharing the gospel with college students trying to figure out life. Being called to pastor, Dr. Colson attended Reformed Theological Seminary—Orlando where he completed his Master of Divinity. He earned his PhD from the University of Aberdeen where he studied the works of John Calvin on the Sabbath commandment.

Before arriving at Christ Church Presbyterian (PCA) in 2014, Dr. Colson served as an assistant pastor at Second Presbyterian Church (EPC) in Memphis, TN and planted Church of the Ascension (ACNA) in Arlington, VA. Under his leadership, God has revitalized Christ Church’s ministry, renewing the congregation in its worship and communal life. Alongside his duties at Christ Church, he teaches at Reformed Theological Seminary and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he helps prepare the next generation of pastors and teachers for gospel ministry. Dr. Colson has co-authored three albums of hymns with musician Andy Zipf, together making up the group Yellowhammer Hymns, in an effort to contribute to the ongoing reformation and renewal of the Church’s worship.

He and Melissa have been married for twenty-three years. They have three children who fill their home with joy, conversation, and competitive board game play.
